About Me

My name is Chamila. I am an undergraduate, currently studying at University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC), doing a Bachelors degree on Information & Communication Technologies. Hopefully, I would pass out holding a Bachelor of Science degree in ICT in 2011.
Currently I’m a trainee System Administrator at the University of Colombo Network Operating Center.

I’m interested in Networking & System Administration, Localization, Web programming with PHP and a little bit of Java. I am a Sun Certified Java Programmer under platform 1.4. I have some experience on using the CodeIgniter & Doctrine PHP Frameworks. Please refer to Projects section to find out about my projects. My preferred DBMS is mySQL.

I have also being doing some work focused on Localization, mainly on the field of font development. Hopefully, a couple of Sinhala Unicode fonts will be released in April 2010. I am also interested in Web Designing using Adobe Flash. I have been working with Flash since Flash was Macromedia (Flash 5).

I love working with Free & Open Source Software. My favored Operating System is Ubuntu (9.10), and I keep Fedora as my secondary OS. Although, still a n00b, I hope to be an active contributor to the FOSS community. I see it as the leading path to technology for people like us in developing countries.

Apart from the tech stuff I’m into reading too. One of the best books I’ve read is Sophie’s World by Jostein Gaarder. It made me be interested in Philosophy and other social sciences. Sociology and Psychology were some of my favorite subjects when I was in the 1st year in university.
